About the Instrument
People are always surprised on coming backstage after a concert to discover that the instrument is in fact electronic. This degree of realism has beeen achieved by painstakingly re-programming the instrument from scratch to imitate a variety of specific organ sounds. It is used regularly by such organisations as the National Symphony Orchestra, the R.T.E. Concert Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, Our Ladies Choral Society, the Dublin County Choir, the Culwick Choral Society, and many other choirs throughout Ireland. It is also used by many distinguished organists for weddings where the church does not have a viable organ and it has been used on many commercial recordings.
Recommendations
Mark Armstrong, organist, conductor, producer:-
''For years I relied on cumbersome chamber organs which always required tuning after transportation and indeed once again after settling in the hall for some hours before performances. I came across The Dream Factory's wonderful electronic organ some years ago and now would not use anything else. They have created from scratch not only perfectly authentic organ and harpsichord sounds but have also added extraneous noises such as organ 'chiff' and harpsichord hammer action which serve to make this keyboard almost indistinguishable from the real thing in a performance context.''
John Dexter, organist and conductor:-
"I always used to despise electronic organs, until I played this one. How many pipe organs would be so portable, reliable and in tune? Here is a real alternative that sounds truly authentic."
Marion Doherty, conductor, continuo player, Head of Music at St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra:-
"Having listened to a marvellous set of Bach cantatas in St. Anne's Church, Dawson Street, some years ago, I made my way to the sacristy to congratulate the conductor. While passing the organ seat I paused to check what make of instrument had produced such an ideal sound and to my astonishment discovered that it was an electronic keyboard. What a revelation! I have availed of this instrument on several occasions since. The most recent occasions were in November 2004 when I conducted the reduced version of Bernstein's 'Chichester Psalms' and May 2005 when I conducted a programme of Vivaldi, Pinzger and Mozart's 'Requiem' in the Helix. I utilised the instrument in every item and was delighted with the result. In addition, The Dream Factory takes into account what type of sound is required, the size of hall, etc and comes up with a sound that is tailored to your exact requirements."
Advantages
There are certain advantages over an acoustic chamber organ:-
* Easier to transport (fits on the back seat of even the smallest family car)
* Less easily damaged
* Easy to tune to any pitch
* Stable scale intonation
* Infinitely controllable volume (easier to obtain correct balance)
* Greater choice of stops and combinations
The instrument is hired out complete with:-
* Instrument stand
* Amplification and speaker
* Swell pedal
* Foolproof step-by-step colour coded instructions
(no-one has ever failed to assemble it correctly!)
* Full list of sounds
* Optional wood cabinet (with integral wood music-stand) to hide those unsightly wires
Stops Available
INSTRUMENT A (Organ centred) Hear Some Examples
There are 4 basic stops (Flute I & II, Chamber Organ & Diapason), each of which comes in 3 combinations, (8 ft, 8+4 ft, 8+2 ft).
Further Diapason combinations, include 16+8+4+2 ft, giving a Baroque Full Organ sound for accompanying big choruses.
There is a larger Full Organ stop which includes reeds (but this would need greater amplification than here provided to do it justice).
There is an adequate Harpsichord sound (8 ft, 8+4 ft), which, though it hasn't quite the same ultimate degree of realism as the organ stops, still sounds very authentic in an orchestral context.
A different instrument (INSTRUMENT B) is available for those whose continuo requirements centre round the harpsichord.
The organ sounds on it don't quite have as much character as those on Instrument A, but are still very realistic.
INSTRUMENT B (Harpsichord centred) Hear Some Examples
Harpsichord 1 (8 ft, 16+8 ft, 8+4 ft), Harpsichord 2, Harpsichord 3, Harpsichord Lute stop.
